It’s been awhile since I did a blog post, so here’s a fun update. Well, fun to me since I’m the weirdo who loves to talk about writing.
Book Three in the Whisper Legacy is almost ready for final edits. For those of you who don’t already know, the official title is Into the Shadow Realm. Book Three takes readers on a journey into the shadow world, where spirits are sent after their second deaths.
Whisper must right the wrongs committed in Walk the Red Road, while a new leader prepares to rule the Land of the Dead in her stead. All the while, Sun Woman seeks her vengeance against the living realm and a young Cherokee boy in the living world discovers he is meant to lead his people into a brighter future.
A longer synopsis is coming soon, but that’s the gist of it. Into the Shadow Realm sees the introduction of new legends and characters, including the seductive Father Moon, as well as welcomes old characters from Beyond the Western Sun. And at the center of the story is Whisper as she continues to follow the Red Road.
So, for the fun part. I love the writing process, and taking a look into that process as a whole. So, I figured I’d share my own process below:
The following two pics are images of Into the Shadow Realm as a work in progress. As you can see, I sometimes write in a weird way. I have just snapshots of scenes, ideas of what will come next. At the end of my manuscript, I always keep a “Notes” section. Things I don’t want to forget, reminders to go back and add this or that. Questions I ask myself as I’m writing.
Next comes the editing process. So far I’ve only done my first edit and then the second with my first reader (AKA, Mom). This means I get it back like this:
And then it all comes together, like this:
In case you’re wondering, I chose sections with no spoilers. So, even if you’re a cheater and read the pages you won’t get any special details on what happens in the book. Just have to wait and see!
